I arrived home from work today wondering if Kendall's soccer practice in Holly Springs (30 min south) would have been cancelled due to thunderstorm warnings all over the area and rain on and off all day. If it was, she was going to be able to attend her brownie meeting that was to be tonight...so I get her all set to catch a ride to brownies since all soccer fields in our system are closed due to weather. I take a quick shower and am told by Keith that there is a tornado on Jordan Lake- heading right toward us- to prepare our emergency shelter (a closet downstairs). At the same time, I have phone calls clicking between Julie (the house where Justin is), Lisa (the one giving the ride to Kendall) and then Janice (the brownie leader calling to cancell tonights meeting due to the weather) and Keith hollering from the family room with the warning updates and instructions to get.in.the.closet.NOW. Kendall was sobbing, Justin runs in from Ray's house and gets all upset. So, we bring the game Pay Day in to the closet with us, say a prayer for safety and hunker down to ride out the storm just as the hail starts falling.
Thankfully, it passed quickly and uneventfully for us and we were able to come out after a few minutes. About 20 minutes later, just a bit further down the road from my office, a tornado was spotted on the ground, the third one spotted so far this afternoon. We are getting ready to enjoy our dinner and hope that things settle down here soon- especially since American Idol will be on soon!
