little bit of this, little bit of that

I've been a blog slacker lately. We've had plenty going on, but not much news-worthy action. Our biggest news (and this is sad that it would even classify as news worthy) is the EOG's have come and gone. EOG's are End Of Grade Testing (standardized) that begin in third grade and are taken every year after. It was Kendall's first year taking them. For many weeks leading up to them, the entire school is in freak out mode: testing strategies, how the test will try to trick you, go to sleep early each night before testing, eat a huge and perfectly balanced breakfast each morning...blah blah. (I'm not a big believer in these tests if you couldn't tell). With Kendall's academic anxieties, I really wanted her to do well so she wouldn't have to retest, which they make you do if you don't do well. She did very well and passed and Justin not only passed, but scored a nearly perfect test (and may very well have missed no questions, we find that out in a few days). Thankfully, that is over and done with. Now, both kids have been through them and it shouldn't be such a big ordeal any longer.
We are deep into swim team mode. The kids have had their practice meet and time trials with tomorrow being our first competition. Thankfully it's supposed to be in the high 70's which is great for the parents working the meet= less sweating. Both kids have improved their times. Justin wants to break the 9-10 freestyle 25 yard record of 19.3 seconds, he's only one and a half seconds away. Kendall continues to rock in breast stroke and is now an amazing butterfly swimmer. She wins every heat she's in so far- we'll see if she's in any main events tomorrow. If she wouldn't look around as she swims, she'd finish even faster ;-)
I celebrated turning 40 Saturday. YIKES! I had a very fun weekend. Some girlfriends took me out to dinner Friday. It was supposed to be girls night out, but turned into a bday celebration. We sat at this wonderful table in a smoke-free bar in the restaurant and the entire bar ended up singing Happy Birthday as we did a butterscotch shot-the name of which I can't recall, but it was good! We laughed SO much, it was a blast.
Saturday, Keith took me out to dinner. It was wonderful also, he had loaded a few songs on his ipod in my honor and played me a "concert" on the way to dinner. We saw someone from school and church (same person, whom we know from both places) and she stopped to say hello and as she left had a "love martini" send to our table- it had heart shaped strawberries floating in it. But, I didn't drink it as I had my fun the evening before!
Sunday we went to church in the morning and on the lake in the afternoon where we met up with the Collins and Libbus families. We had a wonderful time, the water was very refreshing and you can't beat having dinner while floating on the lake.
This week, Kendall starts orthodontic treatment (Wednesday). I work a little and Keith travels to Mexico for "work"...I don't know about that!
Enjoy your week. Has ta La vista....
