Soggy Swim Meet
We had some wonderful rain yesterday-all day and most of the evening it rained off and on... downpours at times. It was also our first swim meet. Just as the meet started, it began to rain. Hard. The first hour of the meet was done in heavy rain. It was also 70 degrees. The kids were cold, the parents were wet. It added to the chaos that always accompanies the first meet. After 40 minutes of the heavy rain, they decided to cancel the heats and just do main events (thankfully). Now on to Justin and Kendall. Justin was in two main events: the medley relay and the freestyle relay. Only thing is, the freestyle relay is the last event and his hand was marked incorrectly. We thought he was in a heat. So, when they cancelled heats, he was (we thought) free to go home, which he was anxious to do since he was wet, his towel was wet and he was cold. We were all bummed when we later found out he missed swimming in a main event due to the mismarked hand. However, in the medley relay, his group placed third! He was happy about that. Kendall, the fish, was in five main events: medley relay (first place), freestyle (3rd place), backstroke (4th place), breaststroke (2nd place) and then freestyle relay (first place). So, she and I were there to the end (I was working as a "runner" the most thankless volunteer job I've ever experienced). But, all in all, it was fun even though wet. I sure wish I had a camera with me to show the hysterical sight that the whole event was. The planes that kept flying overhead just had to be full of laughing people wondering what those insane people were doing at a pool in the pouring rain!
