Just after tucking the kids into bed last night, I came downstairs to the computer to check email. My inbox had an email from Justin's technology teacher. The subject line read, "Justin--Mr. Naab--Mills Park Middle School". My heart sank, for I thought, "ok, here goes. what assignment has he forgotten to turn in. what test did he forget to make up from his absence a couple of weeks ago?". You see, the school year is winding down. With both kids having had recent days out due to illness, it's exhausting to follow behind making sure they've done what needed to be done to get caught back up.
Well, shut my mouth. This was not at all what the email was regarding. The awards ceremony for the end of the year is coming up in early June. Justin was elected by this teacher to receive an award for academic excellence in this subject. This teacher picked Justin out of six classes of students per day. And, the award isn't even the best part. What blew my mind was what he said in his email about Justin. The second paragraph reads:
"I nominated Justin for this award because he tries very hard at school, is very conscious of his grades and performance, works very well with others, and solves problems with the mind set of an engineer. In fact, he is very good at hands-on work and has the intelligence to go very far in high school and college. I appreciated having him for a second time in a row and I wish him the best in 8th grade."
He closed with this: "you both should be very proud to have an awesome son like Justin :) Be sure to enjoy your evening!"
Enjoy my evening?? How about made my week!!! Proud mama indeed. To hear something like this is what parenting is all about. Knowing you are doing some things right. Having others notice & mention it is just icing on the cake.
