Rough Month For Kendall

A high fever the first week of June, a major toe infection this week.  Oh my!  I feel awful for Kendall.  It was known that she was having issues with blisters on her big toes.  Her feet sweat a whole lot when playing soccer, and she's been playing soccer 4 days a week.  I also knew she was getting calluses on her toes where the blisters recurred.  When she came home from a skating and pool party last night, she was in serious pain.  She showered and we gave her some ibuprofen and sent her off to bed.

She awoke at 3am crying in pain with throbbing in her entire toe.  It looked like this :(   After more pain relief and elevating her foot, she fell back asleep around 4 with plans to visit urgent care today after church.  This photo doesn't really show how bad it looks, as the majority of the toe is red with infection.  I took her in to see a doctor- we have a local urgent care for pediatrics that is owned by a previous ER doc...

We have a slew of washes, antibiotic creams, wraps and oral antibiotics as well as crutches to get her through her last day of school (any pressure on the foot is quite uncomfortable) and a note allowing her to use the elevator instead of the stairs.

Once this clears up, we are going to have to address the soccer cleat situation.  Obviously her newest shoes have a problem with the fit- perhaps too wide?  Too narrow?  Too large??  We will have to address this issue as it is no fun to watch her in such pain and I'm sure she'd rather not deal with this again...though she is a little excited about wearing crutches to school.  :)
