weekend recap

We're baaaack...from our little jaunt to Atlanta, that is! The kids survived, no thrived, in the care of dear Cecily. They made homemade sugar cookies and then decorated them with homemade icing yesterday afternoon! They went to a neighbors, who invited them over to make buckeyes! They ate pizza and watched a movie last night! They played at the park! The house was in great shape when we returned!! We <3 Cecily!!

Keith and I had a great flight to Atlanta yesterday. He was upgraded to first class, but not me since I don't hold that frequent flier status that he does. Guess who sat in first class? ME! He gave me his seat. What a guy! We checked into our hotel and then he wanted to take me shopping for new jeans (I've been looking all through the fall with no luck) He introduced me to "True Religion" jeans. They are incredibly expensive but really cool. I ended up with no true religion jeans, but two excellent pairs who's maker I could not tell you right now. I wore one of them home today- very comfy and I felt super hip (as hip as a 41 year old can, at least!!). We had a fantastic lunch out while shopping, complete with a glass of wine for me, a gentleman jack for Keith and a shared bloody mary to boot.

Traffic in buckhead on a Saturday was a nightmare. Thankfully the hotel sent their courtesy Bentley to the mall to pick us up. Talk about the ride of your life- wow! I could travel cross country in that quite comfortably. We got back to the hotel, tidied up for the party and then headed to a cute locale that was a restaurant in a smallish old house that they apparently rented out for the party. No sit down dinner, just mingling and snacking.

We had a leisurely morning of sleeping as long as we wanted, ordering room service at 10:30, and then sitting by the huge window reading, eating, sipping coffee (me not Keith), watching a few flurries of snow...

Now, I know my travel without kids stories always involve weather issues with our flights. And this will be no different. We woke to snow flurries! In Atlanta! As we drove to the airport, the snow picked up and the temperatures were dropping. Yikes. Bad weather was occuring in many other locations. Our plane landed and passengers got off and within minutes, there was something about a ground delay due to flights being delayed leaving other airports coming into Atlanta. If our plane hadn't landed when it did, we would not have had a plane! Zoinks!! What would happen at home if we didn't come home today as planned? I swear, though I so don't deserve it, God looks after me when I leave my kids and gets me home when I'm scheduled to be home. It happened in Mississippi last January when we were the ONLY flight to leave Biloxi that afternoon. Anyway...30 minutes delayed, we board our flight and then proceed to bypass 19 planes waiting in line to take off. No kidding. Keith counted them. We popped in line third for takeoff! They warned us it would be bumpy due to the coldfront moving east. Well, they did not disappoint!! About 15 minutes before landing, I got the ride of my life. I don't recall ever having a flight feel as much like a roller coaster as that couple of minutes. I might not have survived if it lasted long. But, it was (thankfully) only about 1.5 minutes of that crazy dropping many feet and bouncing around. Alas, we landed only 15 minutes later than scheduled and were home by 5:30 :)

The kids had "welcome home" signs all over the house for us. We built a gingerbread house this evening before tucking the kids into bed. I changed out of my wonderful new jeans and am in my jammies ready to tuck myself into bed. Wonderful, wonderful weekend away! Thanks brown-forman!!
