Well, the gifts are purchased and wrapped. The food shopping is done, menu is set. House is decorated inside and out. Parties have been attended. Baking has been done. Guest bed is all ready for grandma and grandpa to arrive. Reservations for a special dinner out have been made. Tickets to Christmas eve services at church have been obtained. The only thing left to do is clean the house, and I've had to put that off til the last minute for obvious reasons. I have children who travel in packs of ten or more. They track in and out every day. What would be the point of shining the floors any time but at the very last minute? So, tomorrow is my marathon cleaning day. I'm thinking about going to dunkin donuts for one of those "box of joe" thingys...and just drink coffee all day long!
I don't understand those who feel so stressed out at Christmas. Maybe I am under-achieving? Maybe I don't do enough?! I make my lists of things to accomplish, cross through it as I go, and then, typically by the last few days leading up to December 24, it is the most laid back, peaceful and fun time of the year for us. We will spend this week baking more cookies as a family, watching a christmas movie or two, caroling with neighbors, having a special dinner out, sitting by the fireplace drinking coffee and hot cocoa, and then, finally, going to church and having birthday cake in celebration of Jesus' birthday, listening to christmas music, lighting candles.
I am so thankful for this week ahead. For all it will hold in special memories and laughter. May this season bring the same to you and yours!!
