Yesterday was such a fun day! It was the last day of school for Justin & Kendall before track out, and the same for Sandy's kids, so she picked me up to go out gallivanting around (with a small mission in mind). We were planning a girls night out last night and Sandy wanted desperately to find a new top for the occasion and so asked me if I would shop with her at Kohl's. We were there three and a half hours. I don't think I've ever stayed in a store that long. I think she tried on every top/blouse/shirt in the place. She found NOTHING! It certainly wasn't for lack of trying!
After that, we headed to Whole Foods. We've been wanting to go together for several weeks to have lunch and peruse the cleanses available. We made ourselves a salad plate and ate before shopping. I had never had a kale salad, in fact, I've never had raw kale. It was so good! It was dressed in lemon and a bit of oil with cherry tomatoes. Alongside that I had gingered beets, wheat berries and a bit of quinoa. We found a very helpful employee in the supplement aisle to give us info on cleanses. Crazy Sandy (who regularly makes me laugh- as mentioned in a recent post) became overwhelmed and repeated fifteen times, "which one should we get" while the poor lady was still trying to explain things.
We arrived back home just in time for the kids to come home from school, very excited for their three week break. Knowing I would be heading out for a girls night, I bought tickets for Keith and the kids to attend the school's spring carnival. They left right before I headed to the Umstead Hotel where twelve of us were planning to have drinks and appetizers on the beautiful outdoor patio. The Umstead is a five star, world class hotel, restaurant and spa. I guess that is why my gnocchi appetizer (of three bites), one cocktail and one glass of wine came to a grand total of $54---holy smokes---$54??? The atmosphere was beautiful and the company was great, so I guess it's okay for once in a blue moon to spend $54 to come home hungry :)
This brings me to the last hoopla of the night. I get home at midnight, aware that Justin was supposed to be at a sleepover. I figured Keith and Kendall would be asleep or that she'd have a friend sleeping over. But, I pull in the driveway and Keith's car is gone. No one was inside. No note left. I began to get very concerned when Keith pulled into the driveway. Kendall's friend Meghan, had been here for a half sleepover and they just drove her home. But, Keith informed me that Justin "almost" went to the hospital after his toenail on his big toe was ripped off while at the carnival :( Apparently, he was heading from the school playground where the inflatables were, to the cafeteria where the raffle baskets were when someone opened the door across his foot and through his croc, caught his toenail just right and ripped it. I've yet to see him today to check it out, but Keith assures me he doctored it up well and sent him on his way. Apparently it was pretty gruesome as those of you who've ripped toenails off (mom) can attest to.
So...there you have our Friday summarized. Hope yours was enjoyable too! Happy weekend.
