what's for dinner?
I am reading The Book Thief currently. It takes place in World War Two Germany. This family in the book are quite poor and eat Pea Soup each and every day. This got to me this afternoon around 5pm when I really wasn't sure what the kids and I would be eating for dinner tonight (Keith is out of town). I got to thinking, I really enjoy Pea Soup. I haven't had Pea Soup in years. I'm not even sure if I've ever made it home made for the kids. I wonder if I have any split peas in my pantry with the stockpile of legumes and beans I keep there. I decided to check, and in fact I did have a one pound bag of split peas. Next, I checked for chicken broth. Guess what? I had some of that too. So, I got to making a nice pot of Pea Soup. I found a couple stalks of celery, threw in some carrots. One hour later- we had us a nice steaming bowl of Pea Soup. It was GOOD. The kids loved it, they gobbled it all up. Who'da thought a book would inspire my dinner this evening? Bon Apetite :)
