Our Weekend

This was one of those rare weekends when we had no commitments. No basketball games, soccer hasn't quite started yet, no parties on the agenda. Our only plan was to attend church on Sunday morning. You know what they say about the best laid plans?
It all started Thursday night (as I count Friday as part of the weekend): I came home from work and, trying to be efficient, put a load of laundry in to wash. I went to move that load into the dryer and, upon entering the laundry room, found the floor to be flooded! I sopped up the water, put the dryer on and planned to call a repair person first thing Friday. Keith had a dinner meeting that evening and when he came home, the kids and I were asleep. Lights were turning on everywhere and I could hear thumps and thuds, so I got up to find Keith pulling up carpet in Justin's room. His room is behind and slightly below the laundry room and apparently, the leak had found it's way into his room, where the corner carpet was saturated. Water also traveled down the wall into the garage. I had a hard time falling back to sleep as I worried about water damage and what could be wrong with my beloved washing machine.
So, I woke Friday with a nasty headache and eyeball ache (probably allergies, or lack of sleep). I called the repair guy, who was wonderful. He thought the problem was the pump, had one on his truck, placed it and gave it a trial run. Water immediately started leaking again. Upon further inspection, it was found that a leak in the drum was the problem. The flood occured due to a drip pan crack which would be a seperate repair. All in all, we could practically get a new washer of the same style for the cost of the repair. The search for our new machine began!

Meanwhile, my Friday was shot...as I spent it with the washer repair guy or waiting for the washer repair guy...or researching washing machines online and in the stores.
Saturday, my headache remained. In addition, Justin's cough that has been hanging around for two weeks (ashtma/allergy related) escalated into an unrelenting, body-wracking cough that wore me out to listen to, so I can only imagine how his body must've been feeling. By evening, he was feeling the effects and also began running a fever. Last night was one of little sleep; his fingers were long, the room was spinning and getting smaller. All common fever induced illusions with him. We woke (or did we ever sleep) to very dreary weather and a day off from church due to Justin being ill.
Since we never get to eat breakfast at home, sitting down on a Sunday, I made biscuits and gravy this morning. Justin hasn't been out of bed yet. Kendall, Keith and I played a little bit of "Rock Band" on the wii, which is VERY hard in my opinion.
My new washer arrives tomorrow. We chose a front loader, which I am excited about. I researched consumer reports, store websites for customer feedback, visited stores and spoke with neighbors. I am thrilled about the larger load capacity and allergen cycle my new washer will have, as well as no agitator. I'm thankful I won't have to go longer without a washer as Friday is "towel washing day" and Saturday is "sheets day", so I am behind as it stands.
All in all, the weekend kinda stunk with the whole washing machine, water leak, headache, sick child and missing church goings-on. But, I am thankful for the opportunity to rest, a low key weekend, knowing my house isn't severely damaged due to the water leak and that I will have a new washing machine tomorrow.
Sorry this post was longer and whiny...sometimes you just need to do that though, right?!?!
