We got to experience youth basketball at it's finest tonight! Justin's team was 3 and 1 leading up to tonights game. They lost their first game, looking very jittery, after a comeback that didn't quite get them the win. Since then, they have outscored their opponents big time; they won by 40 points last weekend. Tonight they met their match. The game was neck in neck the entire time, we were trailing by two points. We scored with about 7 seconds to go in the game, tying the score at 18 and went into overtime. The crowd was so into the game that it had to be comparable to a college hoops game in Chapel Hill :-) In overtime, the score remained close. Justin got in a good shot that just missed going in the basket (good thing as I might have jumped the bleachers, ran onto the court to grab him in celebration, probably embarrasing him severely). At least two fouls were commited requiring free shots and we were ahead with 15 seconds in the game. The ball was turned over so many times even the refs had a hard time remembering who was throwing in from the sides. It all came down to one last shot by our opposing team and it went in, sealing their victory. Both teams received standing ovations and screams and yells for a game played with so much heart, effort and great sportsmanship. It didn't matter who won, tonight it was very much about how the game was played!
