the sad thing about snow in the southeast
unfortunately, because it doesn't snow here often and of this magnitude, we don't have the resources to get back into the groove of things quickly. snow almost paralyzes us. the snow day tuesday was appropriate; snow was falling, roads were covered, it was below freezing all day and we have few plows. the interstates were cleared, but no secondary roads were attended to. therefore, no buses could run their routes, so, with temps going into the teens and black ice being expected, they cancelled school for today as well!!! oh my, a five day weekend?!?! for six inches of snow??? c'mon! today was sunny and 33, so sun melted the snow, but as it hit streets and dark came, it all froze again. tomorrow, schools are delayed 2 hours. i can see the people in areas that get regular snow just laughing at us! i think they do that for people like me, who grew up where snow didn't happen. we don't belong on the streets in a vehicle, it would be dangerous. my week of little work has been consumed with children running in and out of the house, changing gloves and coats and socks regularly...keeping me at the washer and dryer and hot cocoa maker during all daylight hours. fixing snacks and replacing boots, escorting to hills and building snowmen. AND, they track out next week for three weeks! i'm gonna need a vacation soon :-)
