Random Stuff

I haven't felt like writing much in the new year. Not sure why...maybe the post-holiday slump has left me with no news to report other than getting back into routine.
A couple of fun little tid-bits:
1. After a rough first basketball game for Justin's team (a big deficit-late comeback-loss by six points and everyone, including the coach showing a bit of first game jitters), not only did they route their opponent in game 2, which was Friday night, but Justin got his first score of the season! He put up a shot from the right front court that was NOTHING BUT NET! He was so pleased with himself, played with such heart, took a few falls to the knees trying to get a rebound or save the ball from going out of bounds, all from the same position. My bball lingo isn't the best, but I'm trying to describe it. What a fun night!
2. Justin brought home his recorder Friday. In music in 4th grade, they learn to play the recorder and later in the year, will put on a concert. Today, while Kendall had a friend over, he picked up his recorder and impressed the three of us with his ability to play the recorder with his right nostril. It took me by such suprise that I almost fell out of my chair laughing.
3. Unknowingly, I am leaving a legend behind! A couple of years ago, I told the kids a story from my childhood. My cousin, April and I made up a story about "The Noxema Man" . Now, if she were to read this blog, she may disagree with some of the details, but this is how my mind remembers it: There was a man who loved to use noxema on his face at night. He would slather it on each evening, proceed to put on a long, flowing almost-sheer night gown in baby blue. He would then run through the night, nightgown flowing behind him as he ran...and then peep into windows to scare girls. Well, April and I went to church camp each summer together. Our dorms were cinderblock buildings lined with windows and contained about 15 bunkbeds each. She and I would tell this story after lights-out and then look out the window, spot the noxema man running through the campground, scream and scare the bajeebies out of us all (even ourselves!). So...the story was retold to my kids as a memory from my childhood when they started having sleepovers. Now, everytime a sleepover occurs at our home with a child who hasn't heard the "Noxema Man" story, it has to be retold. Isn't that fun, to pass on a tradition and see kids today enjoying such a thing as the Noxema Man, even if they have NO idea what noxema is?!

That's a hilarious story. I haven't thought about Noxema in years, but I definitely remember it being THE quintessential face wash! Congratulations to Justin on his first b-ball goal!!
