Why I Love My Neighborhood

I spent most all of Saturday cleaning and doing laundry, running errands and carting kids around to a couple of activities. I even baked muffins for Sunday morning. My last chore was to cook up and prepare ingredients for nachos for dinner. I went out onto the front porch to join Keith at about 7pm. I was looking forward to having the kids get their baths and to take one myself (it was a day spent scrubbing around toilets on hands and knees). Keith said, "sit, relax with me here for a few minutes, you've been busy all day". So, I sat on the steps to my front porch and watched Kendall riding her bike and tending to her new pet catepillars (three of them).
My neighbor, Wendy, came over and joined me on the steps. We chatted about the publicity talk she'd just given that morning regarding our Avon Walk. Pretty soon, her son, Matt, came to talk golf with Keith, followed by Wendy's husband, Raj and their dog, Casey (who happens to love coming over to sit ON me). On and on this routine went, until we had all members of four households plus some extra kids. So much for my early shower and getting the kids to bed at a decent hour! The kids played soccer by floodlight and ghost in the graveyard while the adults decided to sip some wine. Lauren was steaming artichokes and brought them over, the Niederkorn's had planned to snack on a veggie tray and brought that over and I started making up plates of Nachos for all. What had initially kept us out past dark was watching the HUGE, red moon rise up over the school- a full moon. I must admit, the 16 + of us did, at one point, howl at it; we felt it appropriate. It was, however, after each of us had had a glass of wine. We ended up staying out until past 10pm. For these impromptu get togethers, laughing and howling at the moon, watching kids ranging in age from 7-13 (40 something if you want to be honest about it-as Raj did hide and chase kids around the yard, scaring the bajeebees out of them) playing together so nicely, and truly enjoying the company makes me so grateful for this neighborhood that I am so blessed to live in!

That was such a fun post to read. David and I were reading it together, and when we finished we were both like "man, wouldn't it be fun to live somewhere like that?" You guys are pretty lucky, and I'm glad you've found a neighborhood you love--you certainly deserve it!
