A Night Out & A Quiet House

Last night and this morning was rare for us. Both Justin and Kendall were away for the night. Kendall slept over at Kristen's. They have had the longest "playdate" in history. Kendall went home with Kristen after school on Friday, they both came over here at 6:30 that evening for a sleepover at our house. They played here all day and I turned them over to Lisa at 3pm for some time at Kristen's house, where they ended up having a sleepover again. Justin left at 3:30 for a birthday party that was a sleepover too. So, Keith and I were home alone, for the night! We decided to go out to dinner and try the new Chop House Grille that just opened up nearby. We found out our friends three houses down also had both kids shipped out for the night at sleepover birthdays (spring is a huge birthday season around here, seems everyone is a spring baby!)...so they joined us. We had the nicest time with them and enjoyed a long, leisurely dinner with lots of uninterrupted talking time. We ordered all courses just to sample a bit of everything and it was good. They even had creme' brulee on the menu! We came home to a quiet house with no children to ready for bed, no tucking in to do. Wierd to be at home with TOTAL freedom! We got an early night's sleep, no visits from children, slept til 9 am, read the paper, had breakfast. As I was making the bed, I was thinking to myself, I wouldn't know what I was missing if I had not had children. Making your bed in total peace and quiet is overrated. It's much more fun to make your bed while carrying on conversations with at least three other people, shooing children off the comforter so you can move it...it's just not normal to concentrate on only one thing at a time!! Sad, isn't it? I can't wait for them to come home and let things return to a slightly more noisy, chaotic household that is my normal!
