Skiing!
We picked a great weekend to head to Boone for our annual skiing experience. The forecast looked dicey right up until the day we left, but it turned out to be the best possible weather conditions we could have asked for. It snowed all day Saturday, Saturday night and was still snowing as we pulled out of town on Sunday mid-day. I was in snow heaven!! There was at least 5 inches of snow by the time we left town and Boone was expecting another 2-3 inches by the end of Sunday. I wish we could have stayed to see it!
We arrived to town and checked into a new Marriott property that had been open less than a year. It was clean, comfortable, spacious and convenient. We changed into our ski gear and headed out to do some night skiing. We thought we MIGHT ski until 10 but ended up closing the place down at midnight. So much fun! The family let me stay on the beginner slope and gain my confidence back as they went to the other slopes (am so thankful they didn't push me). We slept in and ate a delicious breakfast at the hotel before heading back at noon. We figured after skiing to midnight, we might make it til 4:30 or 5, but skied until 6:30 that evening.
I did many runs on the intermediate runs with Keith before he went off to the more challenging runs with the kids and I stayed where I was and then finished on the easy slope again as my legs and body became sore :)
We headed back to the hotel to clean up and then went to dinner. Our favorite Boone treat when skiing is Ruby Tuesday's Salad Bar :)) Yum! The edamame is my favorite. We passed out- me with a book on the side of my face and slept for almost 12 hours.
As we began our drive home on Sunday, it was snowing hard and was 24 degrees.. We drove 15 miles out of Boone and watched the weather dry up and warm up to 49 degrees in a matter of 20 minutes. We arrived home mid afternoon, giving me enough time to grocery shop for super bowl, time to prepare wings, nachos, Kendall made brushetta...we feasted, then I headed two doors down to visit a neighbor who had moved to Pennsylvania three years ago and was here for the weekend. Thankfully, that short visit occurred during half time and the black out.
We enjoyed the game thoroughly as we were all rooting for the Ravens! I am so glad we went to Boone and risked the weather. I really needed to get out and away from the house and this weekend did me a world of good!
