First off, Justin survived surgery well. Of the two possible options, he was able to receive the least invasive, though it did require general anesthesia. The operating hospital was wonderful to us- it was basically a specialty surgery center, so wait times were not terribly long. He had three pins placed along with a reset, versus an incision with permanent screws. The doctor said he was "hours" away from having no choice but to do an incision due to the bone already beginning to fuse back together- though not properly. So, four weeks in a cast with pins sticking out of his skin (three of 'em), with occupational therapy starting Monday afternoon. The doc also said this is a very tricky break because of it involving a joint and if he were our age (middle age), he'd never have full use of the finger again, but given his youth, he should eventually regain most use, but to expect it to take six months. Serious stuff for "just a pinky", huh?
I am not even sure why I am online at this hour. I work at 7:30 am. I am already so worn out from August in general that I think I am literally making myself sick.
At noon-ish, Kendall and I left the boys in recovery and headed back to Cary to Mills Park Middle's Open House. We met Kendall's teachers and also said hello on Justin's behalf to his team of teachers. Both are in the absolute best hands they could be in for the school year. Kendall is on Justin's same 6th grade team. They all know who she is for that reason and are thrilled to have another Woolery! YAY!! She is now excited even though her three favorite friends are all on different teams. She has many familiar faces in her homeroom and on her team, so I am confident she will be very happy this year and will soon have 100 new friends within days, just as was the case for Justin.
Justin has an awesome 7th grade team with two male teachers!! His first time having male teachers :) Two of his best friends are on his team, though it remains to be seen who is in his homeroom- I didn't think to check. We spent two and a half hours roaming the school this afternoon so Kendall would know her way around pretty easily.
While at open house, apparently we experienced an earthquake! I don't remember feeling a thing, but locally, some swear they felt shaking. This coupled with an impending Hurricane Irene has our area in an uproar. I grocery shopped at 7pm with a friend and saw everyone we knew at the store stocking up on supplies! What fun :) Kendall's team is supposed to play in a tournament this weekend in Chapel Hill. This oughta make things interesting. Soggy too!!
If I don't get some down time soon, I fear for my health! Here's hoping next week brings calm...
In all seriousness, I am so thankful to God for the safety of our family in August, and especially Justin's surgery today. It's been a wild ride for sure. And while his injury is certainly inconvenient and the timing seems bad, it could've been much worse. So thankful tonight :)

I just emailed you, before seeing your blog. So glad the surgery went well, so glad Kendall is excited to start middle school, and so glad the earthquake didn't rattle you too much.
Not glad you're so exhausted. You should call in sick tomorrow.
Love you all.
