Rafting The Nantahala- OH YEA!!

Approaching "the falls"
getting ready to raft the big drop!

just coming over the drop, where we almost lost Justin and Kendall

and, coming out of the fall, everyone is still in the raft!
Last Wednesday, Keith, Justin, Kendall and I met my mom and Riad at the Nantahala River to whitewater raft. My mom has been talking about it for a couple of years and, man, I don't know why we waited til now to do it! It was AWESOME!! The above pictures were taken by the company we rafted with as we came down the final and biggest rapid at the end of our 3 hour trip. Many portions of our ride were calm and it wasn't nearly as strenuous as I was expecting. They weren't lying when they declared this a family friendly river. As soon as we went through the first rapid, we all said "that was incredible, this is the best". After we approached from the east in rain and mom & Riad approached from the west in rain, we got to the river and the weather cleared to a gorgeous, sunny, low humidity afternoon. You couldn't have ordered better weather. The river is 50 degrees, so chilly when you get wet, which we did much of. Our guide expertly maneuvered us up rocks to send us spinning, had us paddle to turn in circles through rapids (five in a row at one point), just giving us the best time. We are definately planning to do this again. My crew thinks they'd like to try the Ocoee next, which is a bit more challenging with 3 and 4 rated rapids, where the Nantahala was 2's and 3's. Either way, you'll soon find us on the river again. Thanks, mom, for making this happen! Wish we woulda done it sooner :-)

SO much fun!!! Stephen's and my romance started when he was the wilderness adventure guy at the summer camp we were working at and I was the driver who volunteered (wink) to drive them to the Natahala for some rafting once a week :) Can't wait for the girls to get big enough to go!
