Two weeks ago we had a smallish snow (maybe 3 inches) that managed to give the kids a SIX day weekend because the roads iced over and the temperatures stayed well below freezing.
Then this week, we had a beautiful winter storm that brought a total here at our house of about 7 inches. One of my favorite things about snow is when it falls during the day so that we can enjoy it. This one did that and it made me so happy. When it started to snow, it began sticking immediately.
Traffic became a disaster as I watched from both the news and Facebook. I am so grateful that I was home as well as the kids. Keith had flown to Dallas Monday so he missed out on the fun this time around. But, back to the roads. I have a friend who usually has a 25 minute commute on city streets. It took her six hours to drive home. I have another friend who left Target for her six mile drive home as soon as it began to snow. She was on the road for an hour. I have neighbors who had to stay at their offices for the night…crazy stuff.
So, after snowing all afternoon and evening, we got freezing rain and sleet all night. We were warned we could expect wide spread power outages. I had prepared by buying $115 worth of flashlights and batteries (better safe than sorry, I say) as well as cooking several things so we would have more than raw food and peanut butter to feed us.
We awoke Thursday to beautiful glistening icy branches on the trees. And power!!! We had another burst of snowfall that afternoon, which stuck to the ice on the trees, making it Oh So Pretty. Two days with two snowfalls made me a very happy person.
I spent the day doing something I had been putting off. Gathering all my CE's for my Florida hygiene license. What a pain in the butt. I think they make it difficult and frustrating just to be obnoxious :) But, I got it done, so I am good for another two years!
Keith was due to fly in last night. He was quite concerned he wouldn't make it in. The skies were very quiet until about 4pm. Then I was hearing one plane after another flying over. Thankfully he was coming direct as if he had a stop in either Charlotte or Atlanta, I'm certain he would not have made it!
We have sunny skies today. There is some melting going on. And the thing that really rocks about living in North Carolina…we are going to be in the 70's next week! Gotta love it.

Beautiful pictures! I'm glad you were all safe.
So pretty! NC weather (and drivers :) sound a lot like OR's this year. Except for the 70 degree temps you're expecting--that just sounds like an impossible dream!
