Our girls played so well and did it in the hottest conditions of the year so far. Saturday's games were won: 4-0 (Kendall scored once), followed by a 5-2 win (Kendall scored twice).
That was followed by a cookout at Coach Linwood's beach house Saturday night.
Today, our first game was a 1-1 tie- enough to put us in the championship game this afternoon.
The game was one of great defense, amazing. Regulation ended in a 0-0 tie. We went to two five minute overtimes, score remained 0-0. Then, we went to shootouts. Each team gets five shots on the goalie and the best of five wins. That came down to a 3-3 tie. Kendall got a score there too!! :) Then, we had to move to sudden death, one shot at a time. The first up were the goalies. Addie shot on their goalie and GOT IT!! Their goalie shot on Addie and missed and we were declared CHAMPIONS! I cried. I wasn't the only one. It was the culmination of a winning season for the first time in three seasons. It was the tremedous improvement with only one season under our new coach, after two rocky season's with our first coach who had to be asked to step down. It was knowing how intense this was on the girls. To be this close to victory for the first time and have the game end in a tie, the double overtime tie and the penalty kicks tie and then get to that sweet taste of victory. It made sitting outside in 90 degrees for several hours over the weekend getting cooked in the intense sun, dragging gear all over creation like pack mules, taking time away from home to be "soccer parents", soooo worth it!! All to see the smiles plastered on the faces of those beautiful 10 year olds that I've come to adore so much.
Yay and GO GALAXY :)
