Here it is almost mid-December as I realize I have failed to post any updates during the entire fall season. So many wonderful little things have occurred since August and I am at risk of forgetting them all. Yikes.
One of the reasons, I suppose, would be the typical busyness that comes from being an active family. There has been a ton of soccer, plenty of clubs through school, High School football games to attend, College football to watch, attend and drive us nuts...in the best way possible. Carting kids around, oh my! It's like a full time job. Both kids are enjoying very active social lives.
Most recently, Justin went to his first DECA competition of the year this week. It was in Raleigh, was a very long day, but he qualified to attend the state level competition. He is quite pleased with that. Kendall has begun school pre-season soccer workouts, just as club soccer is winding down. Though club soccer is winding down, it is not completely off season. Just down to two days a week. Conveniently, school workouts took up three of those newly free days. Just for kicks, she's added in a private lesson at the suggestion of her club coach. Two of her club coaches just had a mini meeting with her this week, letting her know that she is at the point with her skill set that she can seriously be an attraction to many college coaches...there are just a couple of things they want to tweak- thus the private lesson. This is very exciting news!
On that note, did you know that Florida State Women's Soccer just won their first national title? If you weren't aware, this is where Kendall dreams of playing soccer. She has plans to attend their summer soccer camp this year...she wants to make the coach aware of her desire to play for him. It's good to have aspirations!
Both school seasons for soccer and lacrosse will run at exactly the same time. I've looked at the schedules for both and found (thankfully), only two games will be played at the same time and day. With 20 games for each team, I am very surprised and thankful that there is that minimal of overlap. This means our late winter and spring will be spent in stadiums. For a good cause, I say!
So...football. It's been a huge part of our lives the past three months. Justin and friends formed a fantasy league that has had him very much into the NFL games. He has been very knowledgeable about individual players, teams, stats. Very impressive to watch. The boys have had great fun with it.
The kids High School team did very well this year. We all attended many games, even though we nearly froze at the end of the season. It was fun yet surreal to watch both of our children head over to the student section to be packed in like sardines and where parents are practically forbidden, but they were able to watch the game without ever sitting down, cheer and jump around, socialize and take plenty of pictures to post on instagram, the "thing" to do that I am too uncool to do! The football team lost only two games this season and won the division. They did not make it past that, however.
Florida State has kept us on our toes with the many near losses and close calls. It's been ironic to watch them stay undefeated yet fall in the playoff rankings, but when you consider the level of play compared to last year coupled with the controversies surrounding the quarter back, our family is perfectly pleased with where they stand. Though I am VERY much looking forward to seeing FSU play Oregon, I'm quite nervous at the same time. Oregon is a very dynamic team and so fun to watch.
Looking forward a bit, our family has just finalized plans to cruise again this spring break. We will be on another week-long Caribbean cruise on the same ship as last year. This time, we will be cruising the Eastern Carribean with stops in Nassau, St. Martin and St. Thomas. The kids are over the moon excited. The Niederkorn's will be taking the same cruise again, so all of us are looking forward to another excellent vacation together.
We are wrapping up our preparations for Christmas. I am once again grateful to keep it fairly low keep and simple. Nice traditions, wonderful memories should be made, yet there should be little to no stress involved. It's the two weeks during Christmas and New Years that are typically the most relaxing of the year (minus these spring break cruises!), because everyone has the blessing of time off: from school, work, sports and best of all ALARM CLOCKS! I will cherish every morning we don't have to wake to that unpleasant startle.
So, this is but a skimming of the last three months in our household. Thanks if you read all the way through. Wish you all a Merry Christmas!
