if there's one good thing that has come from getting up at 5:40 am for my high schooler, it is the time spent between justin leaving for the bus and kendall making her way downstairs for breakfast.
i have a wonderful habit that has formed since the school year began. when justin leaves for the bus, i get out my phone and open my "jesus calling" app and read the daily devotion. then i get out my bible and read anywhere from 1-3 chapters, depending on the length of the chapters. afterward, i get on the floor and put on my worship playlist while doing my morning stretches and pray.
what a way to spend 30 minutes of free time, right? i am loving that time and have come to appreciate a part of my day where i can imagine it would be easy for me to long to be back in the bed.
kendall told me a couple of days ago how she got up feeling a little grumpy but when she came out of her room and started down the steps, she heard my music and it cheered her up. this morning, it was, "mom, i love coming down for school and hearing your music and seeing you praying, it's comforting".
what a wonderful habit! i'm being blessed by my time with God and that in turn is a blessing to my child. something that has come to be a comfort to her. love it!
