Yesterday was nuts. Let me start by letting you know that I slept very poorly on Friday night to the point that I'm not sure I got three hours worth of sleep. Our Saturday was slated to be chock full of obligations...one of those days where EVERYTHING is on the same day. Two soccer games, a wedding, a party, a babysitting gig, a mowing gig, and plans with a friend...
We were up and out by 10 for Kendall's first soccer game. Justin headed to a mowing gig as the rest of us went to the soccer game. We reached home at 1pm after her team won 9-0 and Kendall scored two goals.
Keith took her out for a sandwich while I took Justin to a friends house in a nearby neighborhood.
Kendall, Keith and I all got back home with ten minutes to spare for her to change uniforms, socks and water bottles before being picked up for game number two. She got a ride with a teammate because Keith and I had a wedding to attend....
Kendall's second game was a tough loss of 3-1. She scored the only goal though, so thats a bonus. It rained during the second game, so she came home drenched.
We attended the wedding of a guy Keith works with and his wife. It was lovely and we stayed for about an hour of the reception before going to collect Justin at his friends house and greet Kendall, shove some food into her mouth and get her into dry clothes before she was picked up to babysit for a family from church. She had a mere 15 minutes of downtime for this...the poor thing.
After getting her off, we headed to a neighbor's house for a going away party for our next door neighbor's who are moving to a different neighborhood. Justin went down the road to hang with his group of friends.
So..at 10:30, I was unable to party any longer and really wanted to go to bed. I left Keith at the neighbor's and came home. Kendall was texting me about how she was starved, so I decided to make her some pasta so she could eat when she got back. My plans were to go ahead and fall asleep on the couch while I waited for everyone to get home. Just as I was about to lay down, Keith came home. Two minutes later, Justin came home. And just about 11:45, Kendall made her way back. As I was serving her pasta to her, the lights went out (it had been raining all afternoon and evening). We got out flashlights and candles, the kids ate by candlelight (at midnight...yawn) and I went to bed. The power didn't come back on until almost 2, but just before that, a smoke detector began beeping it's low battery warning :(
Keith went to the garage, got the ladder off the wall and brought it upstairs, in the dark...finding it was Kendall's smoke detector. Just as he was on the top of the ladder, power returned. The beeping stopped! An hour later, the beeping returned. Keith had returned the ladder to the garage, so down he went to retrieve the ladder again. But, we had no d-cell batteries in the house!! Rather than drive to a 24 hour grocery store, he searched for one currently being used and was able to find one. Up he went on the ladder, again. (I've never heard him sigh in frustration more than last night). The battery was changed and all was quiet, again. For two hours. Using a used battery is not always the best idea and it wasn't last night. Poor Kendall left her room at some point and went downstairs to find a quieter place to sleep.
Keith went out to the store first thing this morning for batteries and once again, all is quiet. We are all exhausted (Kendall so much so that she feels ill today, but as active as she was yesterday topped off with the lack of sleep, it does not surprise me one bit). I think we will all sleep very well tonight. As long as no more smoke detectors decide to get noisy :/
