Between the four of us, we were all over the place this weekend. Keith headed to Charlotte on Friday for work, while Friday evening, I headed to Winston-Salem with the kids for a soccer tournament. Keith came to Winston-Salem from Charlotte to see one of Kendall's games and then went back to Charlotte with Justin. Kendall and I stayed in Winston-Salem the whole time and then the four of us all met back home last night at around 8pm. Busy weekend, but fun for all!
Kendall played for games in a round robin style of tourney. Their closest game was the Saturday morning game where we played another Raleigh team that is always on our regular season roster. They used to beat us every game, then we started beating them. This season (we already played) was a tie. Saturday morning we pulled out a last minute victory and won 3-2. Kendall scored one point for the team.
Our Saturday afternoon game (with perfect weather, I might add) was a blow-out. 8-0 in our favor. So many different girls scored, one of them being Kendall. The girls were on cloud 9 :) We've had a dry spell in the scoring department this season, which I think this tournament helped them end. Keith was at this game as well as our next door neighbors whose daughter was in the tournament in the U15 age bracket. They were impressed with the quick scoring, the passing and the incredible defense we played.
Sunday allowed us to sleep in a bit as our morning game wasn't until 11. That was a 3-0 victory. Kendall scored 4 goals. Unfortunately 2 of them were called offsides and didn't count. So she got credit for 2 of them and another teammate scored one. They looked incredible in that game.
At this point, we pretty much had the championship wrapped up, but did have to play one more game (at 5pm). By this time, the girls are a little bit tired from all the socializing and games played already. The team they played was a group of BIG girls...amazon woman style. They were also very physical. Almost to the point of playing dirty. Lots of pushes and trips. Very frustrating to watch. It remained 0-0 midway into the second half. Penalties were called frequently. It became evident before the half that these girls didn't really know how to play good soccer, they just knew how to be physical. They try to intimidate with their size and aggressiveness. Our girls got over that quick and kept playing soccer. Their girls began to get tired. On a corner kick, one of our new girls, Maddie, who has been slow to warm up to the team and coaches and get comfortable, punted it in for a score. She continued to take another 4 shots on goal that didn't make it in, but that score did wonders for her confidence. So...the game ended in a 1-0 final. We then headed over to receive trophies!
4 games. 4 wins. 3 shut outs. What fun!
Meanwhile, the boys attended frightful "scarowinds" at carowinds amusement park in Charlotte on Saturday night. On Sunday, they went to the Panthers V. Saints game with Keith cheering for the Panthers and Justin for the Saints. The Saints won...which means things didn't go well for Keith in the football world this weekend. Florida State was in Winston-Salem playing Wake Forest Saturday and lost :( Three weeks in a row for the Noles. Bummer.
I so enjoy soccer weekends. We get one more this season in Hickory mid- November. The leaves should be gorgeous. Now, on to some laundry. Who knew a little girls could stink up socks the way Kendall's soccer socks smell right now??!!
